The Centre for Sustainable Finance plays a central role in shaping New Zealand’s approach to sustainable finance, bringing together financial institutions, government and industry to accelerate progress on climate and sustainability objectives.

Shanahan was engaged to undertake an independent stakeholder audit to assess perceptions of the Centre’s progress, effectiveness, and strategic direction. The work involved confidential engagement with a representative cross-section of funders, partners and stakeholders to capture candid feedback on both strengths and areas for improvement.

The findings

The audit provided an objective view of how the Centre was performing against expectations, including the clarity of its role, the effectiveness of its programmes, and its ability to influence both policy and practice. It also identified opportunities to sharpen strategic focus, improve stakeholder alignment, and strengthen the overall impact of the organisation.

The outcome

Clear, practical recommendations were provided to the Board, with a focus on actions that would enhance credibility, increase momentum and ensure the Centre continues to play a leadership role in the development of sustainable finance in New Zealand. Those recommendations are now being actively progressed, providing a stronger platform for the next phase of the Centre’s work.
